goTenna will provide the U.S. Air Force unprecedented off-grid connectivity and situational awareness through the goTenna Pro mesh network solution

JERSEY CITY, NJ (April 28, 2021) — goTenna, the world’s leading mobile mesh networking platform, announced its award of an AFWERX Small Business Innovation Research 203-CSO1-Phase I contract to develop a United States Air Force (USAF) solution for mesh networking devices.

goTenna was awarded a Phase I through the competitive awards-based program after demonstrating it can provide innovative defense-related dual-purpose technologies with a clear USAF stakeholder need.

The contract comes under the first phase of the AFWERX Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, aimed to open a door for innovation that enables small businesses to explore their technological potential.

The intent of Phase I is to identify the areas where the mesh network solutions can be integrated into Air Force operations to provide comprehensive situational awareness and connectivity. goTenna will explore opportunities to integrate the low-SWaP-C goTenna Pro X solution for low-bandwidth, Mobile Ad-Hoc Network (MANET) communications within Air Force’s operations. goTenna’s infrastructure-less “last-mile” capability will directly support operations by providing additional capability and resilience to the Air Force’s extensive existing communications network.

“The AFWERX SBIR program facilitates the development and deployment of proven commercial solutions into complex operational environments,” said goTenna’s Chief Operating Officer, Ari Schuler. “goTenna is excited for the opportunity to demonstrate how our low-cost, ultra-low profile communications capabilities can enable Air Force operators to more safely and effectively carry out their mission.”

This award will expand goTenna’s long-standing portfolio with the DoD to provide innovations for its exciting and additional customer base in the Air Force and broader community. The goTenna Pro X product is currently used by over 300 law enforcement, military and public safety agencies across the world.
